44 x 24 Oil on Canvas with gold leaf This is a portrait of Evelyn Brent 1899-1977 The American film and stage actress began her career as an extra in silent films. Making her major debut in a silent film production in 1915. Moving to Hollywood in 1922, she went on to make more than two dozen silent films before transitioning into sound. Brent appeared in Paramount’s first talkie. Smoldering and sultry she became typecast in archetypal, hard-as-nails, soft-as-feathers shady-lady roles. After performing in more than 120 films, she retired in 1950. For her contribution to the motion picture industry, she was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Catherine, Queen of the Universe
Oil on Canvas with gold leaf 44 x 34 The beautiful Catherine won a beauty pageant in her teens and later Miss Dallas of 1926. She had also won The International Pageant of Pulchritude and was noted as "The First Beauty Queen of the Universe" now known as The Miss Universe Contest. She was noticed buy the famed Ziegfeld who glorified her in his 1927 follies. She became known for her revealing stage costumes and nude work for the photographer Alfred Cheney Johnson. Once engaged to a Dr. Morton Berson, a fashionable young physician. He was enlightened as to Catherine's pas history when a separation suit between another couple was brought forth charging that the very same Catherine was on the husband's list of beneficiaries. The doctor's subsequent investigations revealed that Catherine, while accepting his kisses and jewelry, had recently negotiated a contract in Hollywood to try for stardom, ion the talkies. Catherine then skipped town claiming to accompany her mother to Dallas. Dr. Berson filed a Breach of Marriage suit claiming that over the course of a year, Catherine had bilked him in cash and jewels totaling more than $30,000.00. And that Catherine had relinquished all intent to become his bride. She eventually returned only the jewelry.
